"Ukrainian Still Life" - is a large analytical project aimed at collecting and analyzing the largest number of works in the genre of still life in the history of Ukrainian art. The aim of the project is to find a certain formula of Ukrainian still life as a phenomenon of Ukrainian self-identification through the historical optics of artists of different generations, because still life is primarily the logic of placing objects on the plane - their composition.
Artistic comprehension of composition is one of the most important characteristics for every artist, because the logic of world perception is behind the composition. Depicting a landscape, or even a model, is much easier than a still life. In still life, there is no human attractiveness and emotions that can disguise technical and compositional inaccuracies and mistakes. Working with objects, self-improvement in seeing light and shadows in small details is a sign of high skill, and it is with academic still lifes that a professional painter and graphic artist begins his or her professional career.
The Association of Contemporary Art Workers and Karas Gallery together with the Institute of Contemporary Art Problems, the National Museum "Kyiv Art Gallery", the Odesa Art Museum, the National Center of Folk Culture "Ivan Honchar Museum", the National Art Museum of Ukraine, and the Dzyga Art Gallery, and the ArtHuss Foundation for Cultural Initiatives are launching a series of exhibitions of both historical and contemporary works of art dedicated to this genre at their exhibition spaces starting July 24, 2018, and invite collectors and artists to join this large-scale analytical project.
